Jay popularized using the “job” title “Storyteller / Chief Storyteller” in the Philippines. He took on this role when he co-founded the Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation in 2010. The Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation is the organization that provides yellow (school) boats to children who swim to school in the Philippines. In 2016, he also co-founded Wheel To Live, the organization that connects PWDs in Maguindanao, Philippines to donors, and also serves as its Chief Storyteller.

Jay has been writing since college and he blogs at blog.jayjaboneta.com. His writing focuses on social media, social innovation, social development, and sometimes he also dabbles in politics and governance.

He currently consults with various organizations on their Communications Strategy and Programs.

Jay loves to help people start things.

In 2010, he was the first Director for New Media of the newly-formed Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) under the Office of the President of the Philippines responsible for building and managing the President’s official online presence. It was also in the same year that he co-founded Kabayanihan Foundation, and the Yellow Boat of Hope Foundation. In 2016, he co-founded Wheel To Live, and virtual reality startup, Chibot.

He has also worked with De La Salle – College of St. Benilde in starting up their Hub of Innovation For Inclusion (HIFI), an innovation space for social good, and the launch of the Benilde Prize back in 2014.


Jay gives over fifty speeches per year. He is a sought-after speaker on the use of technology and social media in running organizations and serving customers.

His clients include De La Salle - College of St. Benilde, Asian Institute of Management, Inspire Leadership Consultancy, Philippine Airlines, Institute of Solidarity in Asia (ISA), Facebook, and a host of other nonprofits and businesses.
